Something to Celebrate: USAID Announces Closing of Panama Office

Panama is now a part of a select club of countries that have moved on from needing US development assistance. USAID announced today that the Panama offices are scheduled to close in September. The other countries that have graduated from USAID are Chile, Costa Rica, South Korea and Poland.

In USAID's own words:
Closing the USAID office signals that the means, capacity and commitment to development is strong enough in Panama for us to devote precious resources elsewhere.
Development is unlike any field. Success is marked by no longer being needed. So it is worth commending Panama on its progress and USAID for acknowledging that it is time to leave.
